AI for Network Operation

We will share some of our recent work (now piloting at a large utility in Spain), where these tools are helping simulate and evaluate possible operational policies under upcoming flexibility requirements. On the one hand this allows operators to anticipate new challenges and make better decisions faster; on the other, it provides operation planners with essential feedback that they need to relay to the regulators, now that new market rules and grid codes are being designed to enable grid flexibility––this is actually the key objective of the S2F pilot projects now running in Spain.

Gathering reliable statistics about how the operators would use new flexibility resources (batteries, demand response, etc.) in future operational scenarios is vital for the design of new markets and new grid codes, and this in turn requires simulating a large number of both representative and less-frequent-but-dangerous extreme cases, and see how the operator would solve them. In this regard, our focus is on showing how long and complex operational studies can be accelerated using our technology. Instead of sampling a few (hopefully) representative cases and solving them by hand in a simulator, our algorithms allow operation analysts to explore and automatically solve vast amounts of scenarios.
